Transmorphers

July 25th, 2009

Transmorphers is another classic from The Asylum.  It’s an amalgamation of Terminator, Star Wars, The Matrix, and (obviously) Transformers.  It is basically all the awesomeness of those series raised to the power of infinity.

Actually, it’s not that good.  I had to watch it in two sittings.  But that’s probably because it was too rad for my brain to handle all at once.  The story focuses on a bunch of humans living underground and fighting a group of alien robots that apparently came out of a Playstation 2.  The humans have advanced weaponry made out of PVC and spray paint and have much better aim than the machines.  In fact, it made me wonder why they didn’t just initiate a full frontal attack centuries ago, but who am I to judge?  It does have a mildly surprising twist.

As a side note: apparently cows thrive underground.  Humanity has been living underground for hundreds of years, yet all of the characters are clothed in brand-new black leather jackets.

The acting ranges from awful to passable and the storyline is carved out of Swiss cheese.  That’s a clever metaphor simbolizing that it is cheesy and full of holes.  I am pretty clever.  I once told someone I was like a ninja, but that wasn’t a metaphor.  It’s the truth.  I once killed a whole army of KGB cyborgs with a frisbee and a can of hairspray.  But that’s neither here nor there.  What is here AND there is the trailer for this mess masterpiece.

Issue number 6.  You may notice that it’s in black and white.  That’s to accentuate the video-ness of it.  Yeah, I am an artiste.  Deal with it.

Also notice, this is your first taste of the Twelve-Eyed Booger Beast (haha, “taste”…boogers.)  If you can’t figure out which of the above character is the Booger Beast, then you probably need to find a new comic strip to read.

As per usual, clickity click on the picture for a bigger view.  Click here for last week’s issue and there for the first issue.

I sometimes find myself singing Kelly Clarkson’s “Because of You” at the top of my lungs while driving down the interstate.

If you ever find that violence is not the answer, you should try rephrasing the question.

My New Favorite Song

July 17th, 2009

Watch this video and be blown away.  I hate rap, but this song is pretty much mind-blowing.  Probably because it has a “ranger,” “wizard,” and “dark elf.”  It’s about LARPing.  If you don’t know what that is, you’re probably a better man than I.

It has a couple crude moments, but really, who hasn’t pretended that their sword is an…extension of themself before?

What’s this?  A fifth strip on time?  MADNESS, I tell you!

So, you’ll notice that I tried to make different people’s dialogue different colors…the Christmas theme is purely unintentional, oh well.

A few other things to note, I’ve decided to keep the “organic” hand-drawn text and bubbles.  I even went so far as to give BIG, exclamatory text (that’s a “rowr”ing space-monkey).  However, I think the computer-drawn borders look cleaner.

I like how the space-monkey came out.  If you disagree, feel free to punch yourself in the face for me.  I also like the protagonist’s expression in the fourth panel.  Copy/paste the second sentence of this paragraph.

If you’re having trouble reading this one a) you suck, b) read across the top row, then down the two panels on the left, and end with the large panel in the lower right hand corner.

As per usual, click the picture for a larger image, , click here for the next issue, click here for the first issue and here for the last issue.

Woohoo, issue four!  I tried a few new things here.  I did the bubbles/lettering by hand and I also did the borders by hand (as opposed to by foot, which was just taking far too long).  Incidentally, if you change the spacing of the phrase “far too long” you can make it say “fart oo long” which is a delicacy in Taiwan.
Anyhoo, click the pic for bigger blah, blah.  Click here for the first issue and here for last issue and here for pictures of Ian’s mom.

Or here for the next issue.

Leonard Nimoy (that’s Mr. Spock, to you) singing “The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins,” a song about everyone’s favorite hobbit.  You want to tell me what’s geekier than that?  Nothing.  That’s what.

And they just keep rolling out, ladies and gentlemen!  This, along with the next several strips introduces a new character and some more backstory to the dark world of Anaconda Industries.  In case you can’t tell, I’ve been reading a lot of Proust recently.

As per usual, click the pic for a larger view.  Click here for the next issue.  If you missed last week’s, it can be found here.  Or start back at the beginning.

Charles in Charge

June 28th, 2009

What we have here is a video of an incredibly attractive young man pouring out his heart and soul into a moving rendition of the epic theme song to that classic of American television known as “Charles in Charge.”  Watch it and shed a tear at the sheer beauty.
